Additional Retirement Credit

Inquire about the availability of documents in alternate formats.

As of November 30, 2007, active members may obtain cost estimates for Additional Retirement Credit (“ARC”) by accessing www.scers.org. Because ARC purchases are only available to active members, interested persons should take note of a few items before moving on to the calculator:

  1. Active members must have 5 or more years of earned service credit with SCERS to purchase ARC.
  2. Active members must enter their member identification number and their SCERS password (which is reported on the Member’s Annual Statements) to access the ARC calculator.
  3. Active members should obtain a copy of their latest pay stub for use with the ARC calculator, which requires gross wage information.
  4. Active members must use the ARC calculator to obtain a cost estimate and must print-out a personalized request form to obtain a final cost calculation and purchase agreement from SCERS.
  5. Active members who receive a final cost calculation and purchase agreement must attend a mandatory meeting with staff before SCERS will approve their signed agreement, accept a lump sum payment and/or begin payroll deductions.

Active members who have considered the points above and are ready to obtain cost estimates for ARC purchases, should review the instructions titled “Understanding ARC: How to Estimate Purchase Costs & Obtain Final Calculations.” In addition, they should review and consider information provided within the “Frequently Asked Questions” that SCERS has prepared for ARC.

As a reminder, please note that members who have not retired from SCERS can obtain new passwords for use with the ARC calculator and the Retirement Planning Benefit Calculator. Members who go to the SCERS Web site and have an e-mail address on file can click the “Get New Password” button at the log-in screen and answer a personal question to obtain electronic notice of a new password instantly. Other members can call SCERS at (916) 874-9119 to obtain written notice of a new password within a few days.
